Figure Academy 2014
For the last decade the Visual Art Institute has featured Figure Academy, an intensive observational drawing and painting workshop for teens taught twice every July. Each workshop consists of ten class days held over a two-week period, when teen students have the unique chance to practice drawing and painting models from life with instruction from professional figure artists.
Students become familiar with an
array of approaches to planning compositions, measuring proper proportions and
perspective, and making purposeful marks and color choices by viewing the work
of other figure artist icons each day.
Valuable discussion between peers and instructors during afternoon
critiques allows students to see the progress in their technique, which happens
as classes roll along. Many VAI alumni have been fortunate to receive
scholarships to art programs around the country based on portfolios
strengthened by Figure Academy work.
The first segment of Figure
Academy began this past Monday July 7th at VAI’s school in
Sugarhouse (2901 S. Highland Drive SLC), and the second begins Monday July 21st. To learn more about
this excellent opportunity or to sign up, please visit the website or call (801)474-3796. More photos of work done in
these classes will be shared at this site over the next few weeks.
